Spanish Class with Tricia

Summer Arts & Crafts Camp!

Welcome to a week of fun as we explore art elements, learn amazing techniques, & create masterpieces to treasure!

Each day students will be introduced to an element of art in a fun and interactive way.  We will face fun art challenges to learn techniques and see how we can use the elements to create our own artwork.

Students will be exposed to some famous artists and different Art Movements each day.  We'll have a new slide show presentation every day.

We will include some fun playground time, outdoor art games & activities, and creative snacks!

Students will also have plenty of time to focus on their own individual art projects.  Students will be exposed to a variety of artwork, but one of my main goals for the week will be to foster individuality.  There will be suggestions, but the end result will be the expression of a child's  ideas.

This is a quote from one of my main sources: This book "is designed to increase student awareness of the different kinds of art.  It gives students a wide range of experiences and helps them to appreciate the art around them.  Most importantly, it lets them know that there is no wrong way to do art.  Art is painting, drawing, pasting, scultping.  It's sewing and building, coloring and folding.  It is expressing something that is inside you to the outside."  --How to Teach Art to Children, Joy Evans   (I will be using lots of other sources.  I just wanted to share this quote!)

what a day looks like.....

We'll start the morning off with Art Circle where we'll talk about an element of art, discuss a few special artists and check out their work in a slide show presentation.  We'll also talk about a few Art Movements & read a story.

Then we'll move on to Art Challenge Time where students get to work on some quick projects in a small group or individually.  (Some examples on Color day:  what colors can you get from mixing our primary colors? and use several items to experiment with complimentary colors & contrasting colors.  Another example from Form day: make a scuplture from several items)

Then we'll move outside for some fun Playground Time & Outdoor Art Games & Activities!  Some of this time will include: a shape relay race, a line drawing activity with sidewalk chalk, a color ball game, a paint squirting relay race!, blowing colored bubbles, taking an 'Artwalk'- looking for line, shape, color, texture in nature, & lots of other fun!

After our outside fun we'll settle down with a creative Snack Time.  On Color day we'll have red strawberries, oranges, yellow pineapples, green grapes, blueberries, & purple grapes which we'll arrange to make a color wheel on our plates!

Then we'll move on to our Individual Art Project Time so that students will have plenty of time to focus on their own projects.  Students will have several projects to choose from and lots of materials & supplies!  Some students will want to complete a several projects while others will enjoy having more time to spend on just one or two each day. Some of our projects will be an introduction to printing, a mosaic initial,  clay cupcakes, clay millefiore canes, a found objects sculpture, monochromatic collages, 3-D flowers, iris folding, decoupaged clipboards, pointillism puppets, & others!

At the end of our time together students will enjoy showing off their work to moms who can attend our special Lunch-Art Gallery Show on Thursday at 12:15.  We will plan to have Panera bagels & coffee along with some student creations of edible artwork:  cheese & pretzel rod sculptures, shape pepperoni pizzas, fruit & vegetable color wheels, and chocolate sculptures & M&M color wheels for dessert!

All of the week's art supplies, snacks, and lunch are included in the $90 fee.  (This is the friend/ siblings discount rate that everyone gets!  I'm committed to keeping my course fees affordable.)
